ABOUT

Dr. Masanobu Matsuura is Associate Professor of International Relations in the Faculty of Urban Management, Fukuyama City University (FCU), Hiroshima prefecture, Japan. He received his Ph.D. in International Relations from Seoul National University in 2015. Research Map / FCU Website
Research fields include 1) Japan-South Korea Relations, 2) Japan-North Korea Relations, 3) Human Security, especially Non-combatant Evacuation Operations (NEO) in the event of a Korean emergency, 4) Historical Reconciliation between Japan and the Korean peninsula, 5) Ethnic Minority & Korean Diaspora (Soren & Mindan), and 6) Ethnic Lobbying.
Dr. Matsuura obtained a research grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2019-2021), for the project, “International political analysis of the historical reconciliation process in Japan-ROK and -DPRK relationships after the Cold War.”
At FCU, he teaches International Relations, International Development, and Area Studies - Korean Peninsula. Also in his 2-year-seminar, he teaches International Relations and East Asia studies, and does field trips to South Korea (Seoul and Busan) with his students.
In 2015, He was awarded The Tokushima Award by Japan Society of East Asia Studies and The Best Dissertation Award by Hakbong Scholarship Foundation, South Korea.
